NEW DELHI: The Public Works Department has chalked out a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth road traffic well before the start of the Commonwealth Games-2010, Delhi Urban Development and PWD Minister A.K. Walia said on Tuesday. The Minister said the PWD had also started construction of flyovers at Mangolpuri, Mukarba Chowk and Naraina to provide relief to commuters in North-West Delhi. With construction of the Azadpur flyover also getting under way, people would be ensured of smoother journeys in the days to come, he added.Addressing a public meeting after dedicating to the people a modern sub-way at Britannia Chowk, Dr. Walia said it would help pedestrians in the area. The 52-metre-long subway has been constructed within a year at a cost of Rs.1 crore. Equipped with an alarm system, fire-fighting devices, alternate electric supply, pumping pumps and security guards, the subway has also been beautified with murals. The Minister said the Delhi Government had decided to celebrate 2007 as Year of Development. Responding to a demand by local MLA Anil Bhardwaj, Dr. Walia announced that a 200-bed hospital and two foot-over bridges (FOB) would be constructed in Tri Nagar. He said efforts would also be made to get work on the Inder Lok metro line speeded up.
