KOCHI: Usha International registered a 38 per cent growth in Kerala during the first nine months of the current financial year, and the company had been able to sell 2.4-lakh fans in the State during the period. Appliances turnover in the State was Rs. 7 crore. As many as 5,000 sewing machines were sold. The company has come out with a record 25 models, Sunil Wadhwa, chairman and managing director of Usha International, told The Hindu here. The fan industry on a whole had a growth rate of 20 per cent when it produced over 30 million units a year. His company manufactured 3.5 million fans, and this year, the peculiarity was that it had catered to all segments and the prices ranged from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 40,000. An internationally famous designer, Michaele Foley, had been roped in to stylise the lifestyle utility items, and the company had made a big foray into niche segments, besides consolidating the standard segment, he said. In the high end of the premium segment, Usha had introduced ceiling fans in the price range of Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 40,000.
