FOR A CAUSE: Singer Kavita Krishnamurti
NEW DELHI: Celebrated playback singer Kavita Krishnamurti will give a performance at Siri Fort Auditorium here on Thursday to generate funds for animals in distress. Organised by a non-government organisation, Circle of Animal Lovers, that had earlier hosted two musical programmes with the singer in 1993 and 1998, an "Evening with Kavita Krishnamurti" will raise money for its animal welfare activities. "I am performing to raise money for Circle of Animal Lovers whose patron I am. The charitable organisation looks after stray dogs and other animals in difficulty," says Kavita. Proud of the response generated by the recent Bollywood film "Baabul", Kavita says: "If my songs are lapped up by music lovers then it is fulfilling, but if the film also does wonders at the box office then it is more satisfying. In `Baabul', besides me, Amitabh Bachchan had also sung." My song depends on the film's script and how the character has to be portrayed. Besides devotional songs, I have also sung fusion ones. I think my composition of songs in `Devdas' was really outstanding. Another favourite of mine is `Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' in which my songs were appreciated. Other sought after films of mine are `Khamoshi' and `1942: A Love Story'." Revealing that she does "riyaz'' practically every other day, Kavita says rehearsal is important for her as a playback singer.
