Special pujas at Sabarimala

Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA: The auspicious `Kalabhabhishekom' was held at the Lord Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala with religious fervour on Wednesday.

Hundreds of devotees from different parts of South India witnessed the ritual held prior to the Utchapuja.

Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru assisted by melsanthi E.Eeswaran Namboodiri performed the Kalabhapuja at the Namaskara Mantapam of the temple by 11.15 a.m.

Procession

The Kalabhom (sandal paste) was taken out in a procession to the sanctum sanctorum, with the accompaniments of the sacred Marappani and other temple orchestra, for the Kalabhabhishekom, later.

Ritual

A `Sahasrakalasom' ritual will be performed at the Ayyappa shrine on Thursday and Saturday, besides a `Laksharchana' on Saturday, according to the tantri.

The Ayyappa Temple will be closed with the customary Harivarasanam chants, after the athazhapuja, on Saturday evening, marking the culmination of the five-day monthly puja.
