Council election notification today
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
The process for elections to the Legislative Council of the State will begin on Thursday when the Governor will issue the notification, calling upon 21 local authorities, eight graduates and eight teachers constituencies to elect 44 members to the Council.
The Election Commission of India, in turn, will follow it up by issuing its own notification fixing date and the timing for the polling as February 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 pm.
Collectors of Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, Guntur, Chittoor, Anantapur, Karimnagar and Nalgonda and the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, will consequently issue a public notice for the conduct of the elections to the graduates' and teachers' constituencies. The respective Joint Collectors of districts, except Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy, will also notify the elections to their respective local authorities constituencies.
For the present, elections are being held to elect only 75 members to the 90-member strong House.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary J. Harinarayan and Chief Electoral Officer V. Bhaskar reviewed the arrangements with district Collectors, SPs and Joint Collectors using the video-conference at the Secretariat.
