Houses for kin of HIV-positive persons

Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) will provide housing facilities to families of HIV positive persons in the city. Municipal Commissioner Natarajan Gulzar said this at a gathering of HIV-affected families organised by `Cheyutha HIV Infected People Empowerment Society' in Bhavani Island on the occasion of Valentine's Day on Wednesday.

Cheyutha spokesperson K. Renuka said families with HIV positive persons were finding it very difficult to find houses for rent. Even if any such family managed to get a house, the owners would it to vacate the house once the problem was found out.

Mr. Gulzar asked representatives of the NGO to give him a list of the names of orphans, widows and HIV positive persons. He also said that he would ensure that pensions were disbursed without delay to widows. District Labour officer T.V.S.N. Sastry and VMC Chief Medical Officer K. Karunamurthy were present.

Care and Share director Noel Harper distributed 100 steel plates and glasses to the families of HIV positive persons.
