BANGALORE: The Congress Legislature Party has urged Governor T.N. Chaturvedi to direct the Government to notify the date for holding the election for the post of Chairman of the Legislative Council. In a memorandum submitted to the Governor here on Wednesday, the CLP also sought Mr. Chaturvedi to direct the Government to nullify all "illegal" proceedings of the Council under the "chairmanship of N. Thippanna." A delegation of the CLP, comprising the Opposition Leader in the Assembly N. Dharam Singh; Opposition Leader in the Council H.K. Patil; State Congress president M. Mallikarjun Kharge; the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other leaders met the Governor. Later Mr. Dharam Singh told presspersons that the Congress was forced to give its third memorandum to the Governor. It had submitted two memoranda on January 24 and February 2 drawing his attention to the need to notify the date for holding the election for the post Chairman of the Council. However, the CLP was hopeful that the Governor would be "responsive" this time, he added.
