Teachers burn copies of new service orders

`Many may lose two years of service'

HYDERABAD:
The Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation (UTF) burnt the copies of memo number 14403 issued by the School Education Department de-recognising the two years' apprentice period of appointed teachers in Government Schools.
N. Narayana, general secretary of UTF, who led the protest, said that the orders would mean that 1.71 lakh teachers would lose two years of service and it would reflect in their promotions and pensions.
Unfair order
This loss would continue till the retirement and it was unfair on the part of the Government.
He reminded that when the Government issued G.O. No. 221 in 1994 introducing apprentice period it was clearly mentioned that the period would be considered as service.
A similar assurance was given to all teachers' organisations whenever they fought for abolishing the apprentice period.
"How can they go back on the promises given to us," he said and demanded that the orders be withdrawn immediately.
He said all teachers' unions would launch a united fight against the new orders.
