Abdul Qayyum remanded

MUMBAI
: Abdul Qayyum, who was arrested by the City crime branch on Tuesday, was produced before a special court which remanded him to police custody till February 28. Qayyum was charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act.
He has been accused of various cases of extortion and attempted murder apart from selling a pistol to actor Sanjay Dutt.
He was produced on Wednesday before MCOCA judge Mridula Bhatkar. The gangster, an associate of Dawood Ibrahim, was wanted in a case in 2000 in which three persons were arrested, in an attempt to murder builder Harish Pujara, allegedly at the instance of Qayyum. There are also . other cases against him pending in various city police stations. Qayyum had gone to Dubai about 15 years ago, police said.
