NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday summoned the Municipal Commissioner to explain why action was not being taken against ongoing illegal constructions in South Delhi's posh unauthorised colony Sainik Farms. A Division Bench comprising Justice M. K. Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Khanna directed the Commissioner to be present in the Court on February 28 to explain the dereliction of duty on the part of the local body. The Bench also appointed advocate Rajiv Awasthi as commissioner and asked him to visit the colony and file a report on the ongoing unauthorised constructions there. Earlier, Mr. Awasthi, who is also a member of a four-member committee set up by the Court to monitor action against the ongoing constructions in the colony, submitted that despite several order of the Court passed from time to time preventing further constructions, illegal constructions were going on. The colony, with over 5,000 houses whose occupants are counted among the who's who in the Capital, has been built on agriculture land in violation of the land use plan. It also does not figure in the list of unauthorised colonies that the Union Urban Development Ministry recently approved for regularisation.
