Shinde assures Delhi on power

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Wednesday assured Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit that the Centre will explore all means to meet the Capital's power demands and make 500 MW of additional power available to it during this coming summer.

During her meeting with the Power Minister, Ms. Dikshit complained that power distribution company BSES was not performing up to the mark and consumers were facing difficulties in getting their problems resolved. On the issue of water, Ms. Dikshit said release of 300 cusecs of water for the Sonia Vihar plant from Tehri Hydro Project -- which is supplying only 100 cusecs of water -- would help in improving water distribution in the Capital. At this, Ministry officials informed that while the Tehri Dam Authority was releasing 300 cusecs for drinking water supply to Delhi, the same was not reaching Delhi due to the rigid approach of the U.P. Government on the issue.
