Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan's presence at the 29th anniversary and 13th convocation ceremony of the Markaz Ssaquafathi Ssunniyya (Sunni Cultural Centre) at Karanthur, near here, on Sunday led to hilarious moments. Tight security was provided for the Chief Minister and City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay too was present to oversee the security. The first instance was when Mr. Achuthanandan was on the stage and a black cat began running on the ground in front of the raised stage. Later, it hid under the stage. Somebody remarked that perhaps it was "a black cat" pressed into service to provide foolproof security to the Chief Minister. The second instance was the Chief Minister's speech. He wound up his speech with an `Assalamu Alaikkum' (`May God Bless You'). As Mr. Achuthanandan read this (he was in fact reading a prepared speech), many in the audience laughed. Perhaps his peculiar style of speaking tickled the funny bone of many in the audience. The anniversary programme was well-organised and turned out to be an annual fest in Karanthur and nearby places. Chief Minister's visit added glitter to it.
