KOCHI: The Government has earmarked 65 acres on Puthuvype Island, south of the single point mooring facility of Bharat Petroleum-Kochi Refinery, to set up India's first oceanarium and a marine biological research institute. Minister for Fisheries S. Sarma, who visited the proposed site on Thursday, said the project proposal was submitted to the Union Government. He said he expected the proposal to be included in the 11th Plan. The Centre had promised to consider the proposal provided the State Government allocated the land for the project. The last round of discussions on the projected, estimated to cost Rs.150-crore, was held early this month, he said.
