KOCHI: The EMS Cooperative Library, Kakkanad, promoted by Ernakulam District Cooperative Bank, has decided to open to the public a collection of 7,800 books which belonged to the late literary critic M. Krishnan Nair. A function in this connection will be organised at the library at 3 p.m. on February 24. The event coincides with the first death anniversary of the critic, whose columns in a popular weekly introduced Malayalis to some of the best works in literature. The EMS Library, the first major library to be promoted by a cooperative bank in the State, had taken over the entire collection of books from the late critic last year. Minister for Cooperation G. Sudhakaran, social critic Sukumar Azhikode and D.C. Ravi are expected to attend the function. Novelist Sethu will launch the library's web site on the occasion. K. Babu and Babu Paul, MLAs, M.M. Monaye, president of the cooperative bank, Rakhi Krishna, grand-daughter of M. Krishnan Nair and V.P. Sasheendran, director, State Cooperative Bank,will speak.
