PALAKKAD: Agastya Biopharm India Ltd. will start a unit to manufacture medicines at the Kanjikode industrial area. Chairman and Managing Director of the company D. Aravindakshan said here on Wednesday that the company in co-operation with the Agriculture Department planned to start cultivation of medicinal plants in nine districts. In the first stage, 15 varieties of medicinal plants would be cultivated and in the second stage there would be 100 varieties, he said. He said that the company submitted proposals to the Government to take over 22 closed estates for the cultivation of medicinal plants. The company also submitted a proposal to take over the assets of Chittoor Co-operative Sugars Ltd. as a joint venture for the production of ethyl alcohol for captive consumption to manufacture medicines. The excess quantity of ethyl alcohol and other products could be directly transferred to the Kerala State Beverages Corporation for sale, Prof. Aravindakshan said.
