The nets are out. And so are a variety of repellent creams, lotions, coils and mats. But the formidable armoury has little effect on the winged marauders whose legions seem to be multiplying by the day. The onset of summer has witnessed a surge in the mosquito menace in the city. Residents are trying out every method at their disposal to control the tiny blood sucking invaders who descend on households in hordes, with an irritating buzz, especially at dusk. "We have tried out everything fumigation, mats, coils and even the racquets that electrocute the insects. But to no avail. Why doesn't the Corporation do something about it?" says an agitated resident. The civic body claims that its vector control programme is on track. Officials, however, caution against too much dependence on fogging. "Citizens too have to ensure that conditions are not conducive for breeding of vectors. This includes steps to prevent waterlogging," says an official.
