Udhagamandalam: Efforts are on to establish a blood bank at Gudalur, said Khadi Board Minister K. Ramachandran here on Thursday. He inaugurated a Blood Donation and Blood Grouping Camp organised under the aegis of the Nilgiris District AIDS Control Society and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS). Chairman, IRCS, the Nilgiris, K.R. Mani said that a blood bank at Gudalur was a long felt need of the taluk. Pointing out that blood banks were now functioning at Coonoor and Udhagamandalam, he said that similar facilities should also be provided at Pandhalur, Kotagiri and Kundah taluks also. With volunteers showing keen interest in donating blood the dependence on professional donors had come down, he added. Coonoor MLA A.Soundarapandian also spoke.
