VIJAYAWADA: They were all muscles and no bones. Exhibiting their well-toned bodies, over one hundred bodybuilders from various districts enthusiastically took part in the 2nd Bolla Shyambabu memorial bodybuilding championship at the Railway Institute on Thursday.

With their oil-drenched bodies and smiling faces, the bodybuilders from different gymnasiums flexed their muscles in front of the curious jury. "This championship is held in memory of my brother for the second consecutive year. Last year, we staged a similar event at the same venue to promote the art of bodybuilding among youth," said Bolla Vijay, convener of the organising committee.

Bodybuilders from Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, West Godavari, East Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts took part in the one-day championship.

    Memorable event

The Krishna District Bodybuilding Association led by M. Venkateswara Rao also pitched in, in making the event a memorable one.

"Competitions like this are important for the bodybuilders, for they can assess their strengths and weaknesses. Points are given based on the colour of the skin, muscle formation in various parts of the body such as abdomen, biceps, triceps, shoulders and chest," Mr. Rao said. Corporate People managing director Kuchimanchi Subrahmanyam, District Minority Welfare Officer K. Siva Shankar Rao and SCR Mazdoor Union officer-bearer K. Prasad Rao attended the prize distribution function.
