Italian Minister calls on Railway Minister

NEW DELHI: Italian Minister for Infrastructure Antonio Di Peitro on Thursday called on Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and held discussions with him.

Mr. Lalu told the Minister that Indian Railways had taken important initiatives towards its growth. It had adopted a strategy to evolve Public Private Partnership (PPP) and identified a number of projects that could be implemented through the partnership. Railways of both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding in July 2006, envisaging cooperation in various aspects such as technical assistance, consultancy, advisory services and training of personnel.

The Italian Minister appreciated Indian Railways' initiatives for improving passenger amenities. He was presented with a memento and a model of the ``Fairy Queen'' steam locomotive engine.
