A cheery new room for kids at Delhi airport

There is a cot and a high chair for children and a sofa for mothers waiting for their flight

Travellers with babies choosing to fly with Indian airline or Kingfisher are likely to find Delhi airport more child-friendly now. To cater to the demands of the younger generation, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has overhauled the dingy, cramped surroundings of the Childcare Room in Terminal 1-A to make their wait a little more comfortable.

From big cut-outs of Walt Disney characters to a cupboard full of toys, DIAL has decided to go all out to ensure that these "tough customers'' are well taken care of. "The Engineering Department has carried out electrical works. Floor polishing and painting has been done. We've also added coloured cartoon characters and a new wash basin with a marble counter-top,'' said a DIAL official.

A cheery room, it has, apart from Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse welcoming visitors, furniture especially meant for kids. There is a cot and a high chair for children and a sofa for mothers waiting for their flight. Offering parents as well as children some privacy, the room is just one more step to providing basic services to passengers. While it may be an essential feature for most airports to have, it will be some time yet before passengers of other airlines are able to benefit from this comfort. With the Childcare Room only in Terminal 1-A at the moment, passengers travelling by other private airlines will have to wait for the new building to be constructed. And in an attempt to make the international terminal at Delhi airport look "international", DIAL has tied up with Sincere Watch Limited, a boutique store that has all the big names in the time industry under it.

A good place to shop for those who like to keep time with designer watches, the outlet will showcase a wide variety of watches to cater to every taste. Sincere Watch are established retailers and distributors of luxury and fine watches with shops in Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand and South Korea. -- Mandira Nayar
