dated February 16, 1957: Support or quit

Prime Minister Nehru has said it would be a good thing if Congressmen who were opposing Congress policies quit the organisation and joined some other party. Addressing an election meeting in Patna on February 14, he said there were two types of Congressmen who had been creating a lot of difficulty. One type comprised those who did not get party ticket for elections and left it and started abusing the Congress. The other type, which was more dangerous, consisted of Congressmen, who, while remaining inside the Congress, worked against it. "I would beg of these Congressmen to quit the Congress and join some other party," he added.
