CELESTIAL SANDS: Sand sculpture of Lord Siva made by artist Subala Maharana on the eve of Maha Sivaratri at the Siva temple in Saranakula drew big crowds on Thursday.

JEYPORE : Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Gupteswar Shiva shrine on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri. Situated in the Ramagiri range on the banks of the river Sabari about 60 km from the Koraput district, the Siva lingam is held sacred in the surrounding districts of the area.

More than one lakh devotees are expected at Gupteswar for the event.

Annual feast

The traditional annual feast held here is visited by a large number of people from all over Orissa, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.

The lingam was discovered in a cave during the reign of King Vira Vikram Deo.

In another cave nearby, devotees worship a large stalactite as the holy udder of Kamadhenu, the celestial cow.
