BANGALORE: Though Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting M.H. Ambareesh has stated that he has put in his papers in protest against the "injustice" meted out to farmers in the Cauvery issue, his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, makes a passing reference to the political gains for his party due to his decision to quit. The actor has sent different letters to the Prime Minister, the Lok Sabha Speaker and Ms. Gandhi, informing them about his decision to quit due to the "injustice" meted out to the Staet farmers in the Cauvery issue. In the letter to Ms. Gandhi, he has said: "I have no option but to take this step, which I am sure will only enhance the Congress' image and strengthen the base for all of us." Mr. Ambareesh, who hails from Mandya district, is the first MP and Union Minister to quit in protest against the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal.
