MLA's appeal to Speaker

BANGALORE: MLA Ivan Nigli has appealed to Speaker Krishna to permit the legislators to carry their laptops, given by the Government as Suvarna Karnataka memento, inside the Assembly. The Government started distributing laptops to legislators on Wednesday. But they are barred from taking them inside the House. Mr. Nigli has written to the Speaker bringing to his notice that the MLAs in Andhra Pradesh are allowed to use their laptops inside the Assembly. He also suggested that replies to the questions of the members should be given in the form of compact discs (CDs) instead of the present practice of circulating the replies in the form of booklets. Providing information in CDs would not only save stationery, but also time, money and manpower, he pointed out. — Special Correspondent

Welcomed

BANGALORE: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has welcomed the Union Government's decision to reduce the price of petrol by Rs. 2 per litre and that of diesel by Re. 1 per litre. In a statement, the party's State Secretary G.N. Nagaraj said this had effectively brought down the fuel prices to the June 2006 rates. In the light of this, the party has said the State Government must respond by bringing down the bus fares to the June 2006 levels. Though the diesel prices had come down by Re. 1 earlier, the Government had not reduced the bus fares.
