HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy is leaving for New Delhi on February 17 with what is considered in party circles as the final list of party candidates for next month's elections to the Legislative Council. The probables had been short-listed after detailed deliberations between APCC president K. Keshava Rao, the Chief Minister and his political advisor K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao in the last few weeks. Dr. Reddy will seek the high command's approval for the list for the elections scheduled to be held on March 17 for 75 seats. Sources said the party was expected to accommodate the plea of the CPI and the MIM to allot one seat each to them from the Assembly constituency. It is also planning to concede the demand of rebel TRS candidates for supporting one of them as it wants to keep the seven dissident MLAs of the party happy. The Congress is confident of winning 22 out of the 28 seats under the Local Authorities Constituencies going to the polls now. The party leadership has warned local Congressmen against indulging in any kind of manipulations in the six seats that the TDP could win on the basis of its strength. Caste equations, loyalty to the party and pressures from AICC played a key role in spite of the claim that the party high command would not intervene in the selection of candidates.
Hope against hope
The lobbies of the Assembly where the budget session is on are almost packed with the aspirants queuing up outside the Chief Minister's office along with their supporters. Although the list has been finalised, the hopefuls are not ready to give up.
