HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam and CPI(M) members staged a walkout during question hour in the Assembly on Thursday charging the Government with neglecting public distribution system (PDS) and failing to supply adequate quantity of food grains. Before leading the walkout, TDP deputy floor leader T. Devender Goud said PDS had been completely ruined and blamed the Government for failing to get additional quota of kerosene from the Centre on the lines of Tamil Nadu and other States. He charged Revenue Minister D. Prasada Rao with making a political speech.
Staging a walkout
CPI(M) floor leader Nomula Narasimhaiah said that while the number of ration cards had increased, food grain stocks were not given in adequate quantity to the fair price shops. MIM and CPI members also lodged their protest but did not join the walkout. Earlier, replying to the main question by P. Aruna (TDP), the Minister said that 39.08 lakh white cards (below poverty line category) were issued additionally in the last two years.
Stating that there was no proposal to increase the quota or add more essential commodities, he said iodised salt in all the districts and enriched wheat flour in Telangana and Kurnool were being supplied. He said that minor lapses, if any, would be rectified and PDS streamlined.
