HUBLI: A group of farmers took out a protest march, led by Congress leaders including former Minister K.B. Koliwad, former MP I.G. Sanadi and former MLAs Basavaraj Shivannavar and B.H. Bannikod, in Haveri on Thursday demanding action against Haveri tahsildar T. Ramesh and officials of the Government Employees Association. This was in response to a complaint filed by Mr. Ramesh against zilla panchayat member M.M. Hiremath, who is from the Congress. According to sources, Mr. Hiremath had met Mr. Ramesh last month and complained that the distribution of kerosene in his constituency was irregular. The tahsildar, who was in a hurry as he had to attend an official meeting, had asked Mr. Hiremath to report the problem to a subordinate officer, the sources said. Mr. Hiremath had reportedly got angry and tried to block Mr. Ramesh's vehicle. Mr. Ramesh had then registered a complaint with the Haveri police alleging that Mr. Hiremath had obstructed him while on duty. The protest march on Thursday began at the Purasiddheshwar Math ended at Kambali Siddappa Circle on the national highway. The protesters staged a "rasta roko". They demanded that the tahsildar be dismissed from service.
