Teachers oppose orders on apprentice service

ANANTAPUR: Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation on Thursday took out a procession and staged a dharna in protest against the orders (memo no. 14403) issued by the School Education Department stating that two years service of apprentice teachers would not be counted for pension.

The teachers affiliated to UTF burnt an effigy and also copies of the orders. The procession was taken out from the union office to Sapthagiri Circle.

Addressing the protesters, district president of the union C.K. Nagendrababu, general secretary J. Ramesh and treasurer S. Mohammed Jilan said the orders would harm the interests of about two lakh teachers.

Besides, the teachers would lose two years of service for the purpose of pension and promotion. Its impact would be on their service and retirement also.

They demanded that the State Government withdraw the orders immediately.
