Kakinada: The Rangaraya Medical College, the second private Medical College in the country after Independence, started in 1958 and taken over by government during 1977, is going to celebrate its `Golden Jubilee' this year. Briefing the arrangements made for the celebrations at a press conference here on Thursday, the College principal doctor S. Raj Kumar said that over 2,000 old students of the college were expected to participate in the final function to be held on January 5 next year. It will be followed by Ramcosa reunion-the meeting of the old students on January 6. The year long celebrations, he said, would commence with the curtain raiser function on February 24, with the Minister for Health and Finance K. Rosaiah laying the foundation stones for the Rs.2 crore Golden Jubilee Library and also for the Golden Jubilee pylon.
Founders Day
Among the other events, he said, includes the Founders Day celebrations on April 16 when all the governing body members of the Medical College or their next kin would be felicitated. On September 17, Teachers Day will be celebrated during which all the teachers that worked and retired from the college will be felicitated. The government general hospital is going to attain 90 years by 2007 and the dispensary of Cocanada town that attained this stage of teaching hospital is completing 150 years. To commemorate the event, Dr. Raj Kumar said Hospital Day celebrations would be organised on October 14 by conducting various sports and games and other events to technical staff, nurses and other employees.
