ELURU: Mayor Kare Babu Rao on Thursday said that the Eluru Municipal Corporation (EMC) had requested the Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) to ensure round-the-clock power supply to its drinking water scheme in the city by establishing a special line. Speaking at a programme here, he expressed the hope that the corporation would overcome problems caused by power cuts in supply of drinking water. He said the EMC was planning to phase out exploitation of groundwater and completely depend on both the Godavari and the Krishna for meeting the drinking water needs from March. Meanwhile, Mr. Babu Rao asked municipal officials to speed up works relating to formation of approach roads to the rail under-bridge (RUB), linking Powerpet and Ramachandraraopet near Powerpet railway station. Recalling that the EMC was attracting criticism for delay on the part of officials in formation of approach roads to the RUB, he wanted the officials to save the political executive from the blame. He also instructed officials to ensure that the bridge became operational at least from April.
