Staff Reporter

Model code is not applicable: Joint Collector

VIJAYAWADA: Notification for the conduct of elections to the constituencies of teachers, graduates and local authorities of the Legislative Council in Krishna district was issued here on Thursday.

Joint Collector S. Suresh Kumar, who is returning officer for the Local Authorities' Constituencies (LACs), said at a press conference that candidates contesting the LACs should file their nominations only in Machilipatnam, the district headquarters.

But candidates contesting the Krishna-Guntur teachers' constituency and the Krishna-Guntur graduates' constituency would have to file their nominations before Guntur district Collector who is the returning officer for these two constituencies.

Nomination forms could be obtained either from the Guntur Collectorate or the Krishna Collectorate in Machilipatnam. The Krishna District Revenue Officer (DRO), who would act as assistant returning officer for the LACs, would assist him in his duties as returning officer, Mr. Suresh Kumar said.

The counting of votes for the teachers' and graduates' constituencies would be held in Guntur and for the LACs in Machilipatnam.

Giving details of the voters for different constituencies in Krishna district, Mr. Suresh Kumar said 91,171 voters in the graduates' constituency, 6,083 voters in the teachers' constituency and 1,102 voters (1,095 elected members and seven ex-officio members) in the LACs were eligible to vote. There was no model code of conduct for these elections, he said.
