Auto show begins today

KOLLAM: The Department of Mechanical Engineering attached to the TKM College of Engineering is organising a three-day automobile exhibition at the Cantonment Maidan here from February 16.

The exhibition christened ``Wheelz 2007'' will be inaugurated by Mayor N. Padmalochanan. Professor of the department P.A. Abraham said the objective of the show was to familiarise the public about the latest technological advances in the automobile sector.

One of the highlights of the show was a display of combat vehicles and weapons, including field guns, used by the Indian Army. In connection with the show, various education stalls would be set up. From these stalls, the working system of automobiles would be displayed and explained.

Prof. Abraham said these stalls should be an attraction for high school and higher secondary students.

The exhibition included display of vintage cars and sports cars. As an added attraction, there was a competition for the best-altered bike offering two prizes.

The first prize will be Rs.7,500 and the runner up prize is Rs.2,500.
