Haryana, Jharkhand to play for gold

GUWAHATI: A three-goal effort by Surinder Kaur and a strike each by Jasjeet Kaur and Rani Devi propelled Haryana into the final past Delhi in the women's hockey competition of the 33rd National Games here on Thursday.

The other finalist Jharkhand dominated Maharashtra by 4-0 to set up what looks like a humdinger of a title clash on Saturday.

Haryana, which led 2-0 at halftime, pumped in three more in the latter half. Fielding a good number of internationals, Haryana controlled the game right from start with superior passing and pierced the rival defence at will.

The Jharkhand-Maharashtra game too had its own share of thrills with the winner leading 2-0 at the halftime. Laurencia Kerketta struck a brace, while Anarita Kerketta and Binita Xess scored one each to fashion Jharkhand's win.

The final is slated for Saturday. — Special Correspondent
