Kunjunni award for schools announced

KOTTAYAM: The first Kunjunni Award for Schools has been awarded to Government Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara. The award instituted by DC Books and Kairali Childrens' Book Trust for excellence in curricular and co-curricular activities has been instituted in the memory of veteran poet Kunjunni. According to the poet's will, the rights of his books have been given to DC Books, Ravi DC, executive director, said. The award had been instituted with the amount received as royalty from his books. The award consists of books valued at Rs.10,000, a citation and memento.

Thirteen schools have also been selected for awards at the district-level.

The schools are Government HSS, Irinjalakuda, Government UP School, Kuzhakkunnu, Carmel Girls' HSS, Thiruvananthapuram, Government LP School, Thengamom, Government HSS, Atholi, Central UP School, Pulapatta, Holy Cross HSS, Cherpunkal, GM UP School, Areekode, St. Joseph's HSS, Alappuzha, Government Tribal UP School, Kattappana, Government UP School, Kuppady, Government High School, Udinoor, and NV UP School, Vayala.

Kunjunni Master Vaayana Puraskaram instituted for schoolchildren have in various subjects have been declared.

Literature: Annie Naomy Philip, Silver Hills HSS, Kozhikode; History: Hrithika Manishanker, AKNMMA, Kattukulam, Palakkad.

Science: Ajitha nathila, Government Model Girls' HSS, Calicut University campus. Awards comprise a purse of Rs.1000, books valued at Rs.1,000, a citation and a memento. Awards will be presented at a function on February 23 at Government Higher Secondary School, Elamakkara.
