NEW DELHI: The Planning Commission has fixed the Annual Plan for Bihar for 2007-08 at Rs.10,200 crores, including an additional Central assistance of Rs.70 crores for various projects.
The Plan was finalised at a meeting between the Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson, Montek Singh
Dr. Ahluwalia complimented the State Government for promoting development and assured it of every possible support from the Commission in maintaining the momentum of growth.
He said the State had taken positive initiatives on administrative reforms and delegation of powers but expressed concern on its high unemployment rate and distribution losses in the power sector.
Mr. Nitish Kumar said poverty eradication would be the main focus of his government and sought the Commission's support in speeding up infrastructure development, irrigation and poverty eradication programmes.
He said private sector interest in investment was growing but initial public investment would be needed to encourage this trend.
He said the Bihar Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act had been enacted and policies aimed at raising non-tax revenue were being pursued.
