MANGALORE: The four-year-old male leopard that was caught at Kankanady, here, on Sunday by the Forest Department officials, died at Pilikula Biological Park on Wednesday. Jayprakash Bhandary, director of the park, said the leopard succumbed to internal injuries that might have been caused by stones thrown at it by the onlookers when it was caught. Though there were no visible injuries, the fact that it was not taking food showed that something was wrong, Mr. Bhandary said. "We had planned to release the leopard into the forest after a few days of treatment," Mr. Bhandary said. Doctors who conducted the post-mortem said the death was caused due to internal haemorrhage in the brain, he said. Some organs of the animal had been sent to the Veterinary Research Institute in Bangalore for research. Although the cause of the death had been determined, the remains had been sent to the institute to make sure that there was no contagious disease, he said.
