Accent on eye care

DINDIGUL : A group of cadets of 1-TN Armed Squadron NCC and Madras Group-A campaigned on eye donation here on Thursday as part of their 13-day motorcycle expedition that commenced in Chennai.

The main objective of the State-wide campaign was to create an awareness of eye donation and importance of eye care.

The team also propagated information on squint eye, necessity of eye screening to all school children and diabetic retinopathy, a problem affecting the retina, owing to diabetes.

Team leader Lieutenant S. Santhosh Baboo said the team, comprising 14 cadets and two students of visual communication of D.G. Vaishnav College, Chennai, had commenced their expedition on February 9 in Chennai and travelled 1,750 km and covered Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Pondicherry, Tiruchi, Pudukottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Kanniyakumari, Tuticorin, Nagercoil, Tirunelveli and Madurai districts so far.

The team is expected to cover Coimbatore, Ooty, Namakkal, Salem, Dharmapuri and Vellore districts on or before February 24.
