BERHAMPUR: Employees and sanitary workers of the Berhampur Municipality on Thursday postponed their strike till Feb 22 . This decision was taken by employees following an agreement among leaders of the striking employees, executive officer of the municipality, Sudarshan Dash, chairperson of the municipality, Sulochana Swain, officials and councillors, said president of the president of the mployees' union, L.N.Achary. General secretary of the union, Jogi Behera, said the authorities had given a written promise to increase the salaries of temporary employees and to implement the salary structure recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission. "So, they have postponed their strike till that day. If the promises are not kept then they will resume their strike again," he said.
The decision has come as a respite for the citizens of the city who had to face the stench of over 1500 garbage. On Wednesday the munipal administration had declared the strike illegal and had ordered them to join duty within 24 hours or face action.
