Government Girls' High School to turn into co-educational institution

HYDERABAD: After decades of neglect and facing the ignominy of being among the most untidy, ramshackle buildings, the 100-year-old Government Girls' High School at Bolarum is finally in for a facelift.

And with the face, the label of a `girls only' institution is also in for a change. A Rs.66 lakh-project will see the District Administration and the Lions Club International District 324C-6 coming together to construct a swank new building for the school, complete with e-learning facilities, labs, music classes and even a ramp for physically challenged students.

At the end of the project, the foundation stone of which was laid by District Collector R.V. Chandravadan on the school premises here on Thursday, the school will also turn into a co-educational institution with boys to step into the campus for the first time. The Government Boys High School at the nearby Pioneer Bazaar will also have a new building, with similar facilities. The new buildings are part of the memorandum signed between the administration and the Lions Club for the latter to adopt 101 State Government schools to provide better education facilities.
