CHENNAI : The Academy for Clinical Training (TACT) has launched a manual on its new programme `Save a Life, Give a Life' (SAGA), aimed at teaching the public about giving basic life support and first aid in an emergency, as also organ donation. The first few copies were distributed by chief guest at the event, poet Kanimozhi. She talked about the importance of organ donation, saying that many people were reluctant to do so. "Why are people so worried about the way they look when they die?" she asked. Another point she made was about actualising the wish to donate organs. She said the only sign of this agreement was a small card that could easily be missed at the crucial hour. Moreover, there is no law to enforce the donor's wish after death, as the final decision lies with the family, said Ms Kanimozhi. N. Ramakrishnan, director of TACT, said that the organisation would be starting classes in small groups to train health care professionals and the public on the SAGA programme. The first class is scheduled for March. Details will be provided at a later date. Other participants in the programme were social activist Revathi Shankaran who uses song as a means of spreading awareness, expert in fertility-related disorders Kamala Selvaraj, Jayendra Panchapakesan from Bhoomika Trust and Lion Govindasamy Thangaraj.
