`Belt bomb' causes panic near Nelamangala
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE:
A packet containing what appeared to be a belt bomb near a shrine on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway, a few km away from Nelamangala police station, caused panic on Thursday afternoon.
Passers-by noticed a packet at Adakamaranahalli. Underneath it was a pistol and a big knife. The police did not open the packet as they found four pumps, similar to those used in blood pressure apparatus, stitched on a cloth and wired to a nine-volt battery and a wristwatch. The sabotage squad, which arrived at the spot, first let the dogs sniff the packet.
Then the personnel delicately removed the wiring connecting the battery and the wristwatch. The police believe the material could have been used to threaten and rob people on highway.
