THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF Government is trying to impose a `draconian law' on the State's education sector by setting up a jumbo higher education council, the former education minister E.T. Mohammed Basheer has said. He was addressing a press conference here on Thursday. The LDF, which scuttled the unified university Act brought in by the previous UDF Government, is now trying to put in place a super university through the Council. Clauses such the one that allows for nominating Council members to the syndicates of various universities cannot be accepted under any circumstances. The UDF will organise university-level seminars on this issue. A `black day' will be observed on March 2. When the Bill for the Council is introduced the UDF will organise a march to the Assembly. A Higher Education Protection Council has been formed with the former MG University Vice Chancellor A. Sukumaran Nair as chairman.
