Mumbai model held

BANGALORE: Officials attached to the Central Crime Branch on Thursday arrested two persons, including a model from Mumbai, here on the charge of prostitution.

Sources said the 24-year old model and Manjesh Kumar, her agent, were arrested from an apartment complex on Victoria Road.

The police said the model visited Bangalore regularly and had taken the flat on a daily rent of Rs. 3,000. The model managed all her contacts through the Internet.

The police said the model was a small time TV artiste and had acted in a few tele-serials, besides anchoring several shows in Mumbai.

Suicide

A police constable, who was posted at the Sadashivanagar residence of former Chief Minister S.M. Krishna, allegedly committed suicide after killing his daughter on Wednesday. Mounting debt is said to be the reason for his action.

The police said that constable Govindaraju (32) hanged his daughter Chandana (6) from a mango tree near his house at Kotagaranahalli in Magadi and later hanged himself from another tree. Chandana was a first standard student of Saraswanthi Vidya Mandira at Byadarahalli village.

Robbed

A four-member gang waylaid an advocate in front of the State Police Headquarters on Nrupatunga Road here and robbed him of Rs. 2,000 in cash, a mobile phone and a wristwatch on Wednesday night.

Dowry death

Bhagya (23), who was allegedly tortured for dowry by her husband, committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Jnana Bharathi police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said Bhagya had married Rajesh of Shanimahatma Temple Road at Kengunte three years ago. Bhagya's mother Mayamma had lodged a complaint with the police that Rajesh was harassing her daughter to bring Rs. 10,000. The Jnana Bharathi police have registered a case and arrested Rajesh.

Killed

Kalleshappa (48) of Haveri died after a sports utility vehicle hit him on Hosur Road on Wednesday night. Around 9 p.m., the vehicle hit Kalleshppa while he was waiting for bus at the Singasandra bus stop, the police said. The Madivala traffic police have registered a case and arrested the driver Yuvaraj.

Attacked

Four men attacked Shiva Kumar, a financier, with swords and choppers near Siddapura Gate on Wednesday night. Shiva Kumar was battling for life at NIMHANS. Shiva Kumar of Kanakanapalya had quarrelled with a few people while playing cards at a choultry in Siddapura on Wednesday. The attack took place while he was returning home, the police said.
