MADRID: Spanish police on Thursday arrested an armed man who hijacked a Mauritanian plane and took it to Spain's Canary Islands, a Spanish Interior Ministry official said. The hijacking of the Air Mauritania Boeing 737 shortly after it took off from Mauritania's capital Nouakchott on Thursday afternoon. The man was arrested after the plane landed at Cando military base on Canary Islands. Apart from some minor injuries, all passengers and seven members of crew walked free from the aircraft after it was forced to land due to a shortage of fuel. Xinhua
