NEPC to focus on solar energy

Plans to export powerhouses

  • Bigger powerhouses in the 5-10 kW range planned
  • Eyes power-starved States to sell the products

NEW DELHI: Having identified solar energy as its next thrust area, NEPC India has drawn up plans to introduce a number of innovative products with an investment of Rs. 55 crore in this year itself.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, NEPC Chairman, Ravi Prakash Khemka, said that by the end of 2007, the company would launch a number of new solar products, including solar hot air and water heating systems.

"Already, we have invested around Rs. 300 crore on infrastructure and are setting up inventories for manufacturing solar products," he said. NEPC's customer profile for its new products would be offices, households and industrial houses, he said.

Launching the company's 1,000 watt and 500 watt solar powerhouses priced at Rs. 2 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh, respectively, Mr. Khemka said the company would be focusing on power-starved States such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana for selling its solar products.

    Plans exports

Mr. Khemka said the company had plans to export the solar powerhouses to African and SAARC countries. "We have received enquiries from other countries, but first we will look at [the] domestic demand," he said.

NEPC, he said, had plans to come out with bigger solar powerhouses in the 5-10 kW range within the next two to three months. It had already applied for a patent for its product.
