Distribute Cauvery water among nine revenue districts: CNC

Staff Correspondent

Madikeri: The Codava National Council (CNC) secretary general N.U. Nachappa on Thursday urged the State Government to distribute the Cauvery water awarded by the Cauvery Tribunal among nine revenue districts of the State, including Kodagu.

Kodagu's share would be 30 tmc ft, Mr. Nachappa told presspersons here. He said water should be distributed among Kodagu, Shimoga, Hassan, Chikmaglur, Tumkur, Mysore, Mandya, Bangalore and Kolar districts. Among the Cauvery basin yield of 790 tmc ft water annually, Kodagu contributed more than 400 tmc ft. thanks to heavy rainfall and well maintained catchment areas, Mr. Nachappa said.

Criticising the support extended to the Karnataka bandh in Kodagu a few days ago, Mr. Nachappa said instead of demanding Kodagu's share, politicians had misled the people and supported the bandh. Mr. Nachappa announced that the CNC would observe "International Mother Tongue Day" on February 21 to press for its demands.
