CHENNAI: Security personnel at the Kamaraj Domestic Airport here seized five rounds of ammunition from Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala State Secretary of the CPI(M) on Friday. He had ready documentation for the ammunition, and he handed it over to them as required. According to airport sources, Mr. Vijayan was on his way to board a Delhi-bound flight. The Central Industrial Security Force personnel checked his hand baggage, which was found to contain the ammunition. So he was not allowed to board the flight. He left for a relative's house in Chennai.
CPI(M) clarification
Special Correspondent writes from Thiruvananthapuram: The CPI(M) State headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram clarified in a press note that the ammunition recovered in Chennai had been left behind in Mr. Vijayan's bag after being produced for verification in Kannur recently in connection with the renewal of his arms licence, which he now held.
