Says Salem Railway Division proposal is well conceived Chief Minister is against change on Salem rail division proposal

CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi has appealed to Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad not to make any change in the original proposal to create a separate Salem Division of the Southern Railway. In a letter, a copy of which was released to the Press on Friday, he said the original proposal envisaged Coimbatore and Pothanur being in the proposed division. This, according to Mr. Karunanidhi, was a well conceived proposal taking into account the economic welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. Any tinkering with the proposal would not be taken well by the people here, and would lead to a lot of misunderstanding and even agitations. He wanted the Salem Railway Division to be made functional without any loss of time and hoped that the Railway Ministry would stick to the original proposal to support the cause of Tamil Nadu.
