Puducherry
Special Correspondent
Puducherry: Director of Social Welfare P. Priyadarshny has appealed to the voluntary organisations here to utilise schemes evolved by larger organisations like Council for Advancement of People's Action for Rural Technology (CAPART) and the National Trust so that they could launch self-employment projects and income generating units. Inaugurating a two-day workshop to generate awareness about projects promoted and funded by the CAPART (Regional Committee) organised by Rajiv Gandhi Home for Handicapped here on Saturday, she said that want of knowledge and financial assistance available from these bodies had resulted in sluggishness in promotion of projects to generate employment and augment income of the families. Member Secretary of the CAPART L. P. Singh, who presided, said that it was indeed disheartening to see that no project was available from Puducherry to the CAPART. The CAPART had nine regional committees. The CAPART would extend financial grant to a maximum level of Rs 25 lakh and it would be available only for organisations. There were several conditional precedents, which should be satisfied. The CAPART would also monitor the utilisation of funds and impact of the project had made on the beneficiaries. President of the Rajiv Gandhi Home for the Handicapped persons S. Balasubramiyam and secretary of Pondicherry State Social Welfare Board D. Dominic also spoke.
