Naidu favours recall of U.P. Governor

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday condemned the Centre's move to impose President's rule in Uttar Pradesh and favoured the recall of Governor T.V. Rajeswar.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said the TDP would discuss the issue with other parties and launch an agitation at the national level against the "irresponsible misuse of the Governor's office by the UPA Government. They cannot act as they like and impose President's rule. It is not correct."

Asked if the Governor should be recalled, he said "certainly, whoever acts like this should be recalled" and wanted President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to take cognisance of the happenings. Warning the Centre against dismissing the Mulayam Singh Government, he urged all political parties to fight in the interest of democracy as it could be the Samajwadi Party now and some other party later. He said the Congress was known for this type of "manipulation and misuse of power."

Asserting that the Assembly was the place to decide the minority or majority status of a Government and not the Raj Bhavan, he accused the Congress of converting the Raj Bhavans into party offices. The Congress always misused Article 356 and cited the examples of Jharkhand, Bihar and Goa.
